Anacapri is one of the two main towns on the Island of Capri, the other being Capri.
Anacapri is less expensive but the two little towns are both beautiful in different ways: more glamor and crowds in Capri, quieter, wilder and more authentic Anacapri.
Anacapri is on the slopes of Monte Solaro, beaches tend to be rocky, the sea quickly becomes deep, and it is home to many of the island’s greatest beauties, like the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto).
The island of Capri does not generally have great extensions of sandy beaches. What it has is the turquoise blue of the sea, dives from the rocks, boat trips.
The distance between the two towns is not much, less than 2 miles, so you can easily walk from one to the other, through beautiful walks in the island’s picturesque alleys or along its scenic roads.
Alternatively, get on the many frequent buses or, for at least part of the trip, you can take the famous funicolar, maybe singing the celebrated song Funiculì, Funiculà which was inspired by the opening in 1879 of the Vesuvius funicolar on the other side of the Bay of Naples, the world’s only ski lift operating on an active volcano.
