Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast

Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast

Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast

is a 5-star high luxury beach hotel in Rapallo, uniquely located, with the bay of Rapallo to the west and overlooking the Portofino coast to the east.

Excelsior Palace Hotel history is long and interesting.

Precisely January 1, 1901, with a full view of the stretch of coastline from Rapallo to Portofino, nestled in a colorful garden, the Kursaal Rapallo was born. It soon attracted the elites of all Europe, drawn to the Riviera by the mild climate and the nearby casino.

The new hotel, later named the Excelsior Palace Hotel, a grand luxury complex overlooking the sea and attached to a bathing establishment, quickly became a favorite on the coast.

English artist Melita Rowe, who frequently visited the Tigullio Gulf between 1897 and 1909, became a regular at the new hotel, which she portrayed in watercolors of stretches of coastline with glimpses of the hotel.

Before her, poets like Percy Shelley and George Byron as well as writers such as Guy de Maupassant and Alphonse de LaMartine, had been fascinated by the Riviera di Levante, the coast going from Genoa to Cinque Terre and Lerici, which includes the Tigullio Gulf with Portofino, Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure.

The newly-invented cinema made the Excelsior Palace Hotel part of its own history, when in 1914 on its terrace were filmed scenes from Christening of a Ship, one of the first films set outdoors with shots from life.

In November 1917 Excelsior Palace Hotel was the site of the Rapallo Inter-Allied Conference that set the stage for the conclusion of World War I; the Excelsior was also the scene of the Italo-Yugoslav treaty of 1920 and the Russia-Germany treaty of 1922.

Excelsior Palace Hotel Portofino Coast has been restored to its turn-of-the-century glory when it was an obligatory stop for the international beau monde.

Portofino is 4 miles from the hotel, reached along the scenic coast road, and Rapallo Station is a 5-minute taxi ride away.

The hotel has a private beach, free for its guests, with 2 outdoor infinity swimming pools, 2 restaurants, Lord Byron restaurant overlooking Tigullio Gulf and Eden Roc restaurant which is at the private beach, sun terraces overlooking the sea with outdoor furniture, 2 snack bars, meeting and banquet facilities.

Excelsior Palace Hotel has a wellness center, which includes, among other things, a gym with sea view, hot tub/Jacuzzi, spa, massage and beauty treatments.

There is a golf course nearby, and water sports excursions by boat to Portofino, Cinque Terre and San Fruttuoso.

Excelsior Palace Hotel Rapallo has beautiful, spacious, exquisitely furnished rooms and suites, all with free WiFi. When you book you can choose rooms and suites with sea views.
