Porta Vittoria is the name of one of Milan’s ancient gates in the city walls, after which the whole area is named. Another quarter of Milan is named after the Porta Romana gate. Many Italian cities and towns are still today surrounded by walls built in various previous epochs in the history of the city.
Gates are road openings carved at different times in the Roman, medieval and Spanish city walls of Milan.
