Hotel Saturnia Venice
Give me a broad description and location of this hotel.
Hotel Saturnia Venice is an impressive 4-star hotel in the centre of Venice, in an excellent position 200 yards (5 minutes’ walk) from Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square), and a short walk from all the main tourist sights of the city.
Public transport and a vaporetto stop are 3 minutes’ walk from the hotel, which is in Via (or “Calle”, as Venetians say) XXII Marzo, one of Venice’s most important streets and the most fashionable street for shopping, with its many big labels and designer brand names.
Any historic connection?
Hotel Saturnia is housed in a precious 14th-century palace, one of the oldest in Venice, which was the residence of the noble Pisani family.
The hotel building’s architecture is traditional Venetian, with stone-clad base. The hotel interiors show many signs of the palace’s historic beauty.
The large hall on the ground floor, characteristic of Venetian patrician palaces, captures the ambience of ancient Venice with its wooden staircase and heavy iron chandeliers. Large landings, fireplaces, high coffered ceilings, antique furniture, stained glass windows, charming halls in very classic style are part of the hotel interiors.
I’ve heard of a Hotel Saturnia restaurant.
The hotel has a famous restaurant, La Caravella, opened in 1963, with a characteristic elegant ambience recreating the interior of an ancient sailing ship, or caravel. It is specialised in historic Venetian traditional cuisine, served during the long Italian summer in a typical Venetian courtyard decorated with plants. From its early beginnings La Caravella has always been considered one of the best restaurants in Venice, and it’s one of the city’s historic, international venues.
A curiosity: La Caravella Restaurant replaced the prestigious Ciro’s Bar, the American bar that was serving international cocktails and drinks and was favoured by Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, who mentioned it in her writings.
Any other outstanding hotel facilities?
The hotel has a solarium terrace with astonishing views of Venice rooftops and the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute dome, where you can sip a chilled aperitif, cocktail or glass of wine at the end of a day of buzzing sightseeing.
Hotel Saturnia is only 100 yards from the famous 18th-century La Fenice Theatre, 10 minutes’ walk from Rialto Bridge and few miutes’ walk from the spectacular Basilica of San Marco and the Doge’s Palace with the Bridge of Sighs.
The hotel has its own private dock for water taxis, the fastest and most comfortable way of transport. Alternatively, the Alilaguna shuttle service stops at St. Mark’s, from where it’s a short walk to the Saturnia Hotel. The vaporetto water-bus stop, Calle Vallaresso, is 3 minutes’ walk from the hotel.
What about the accommodation?
Hotel Saturnia has, among others, triple and quadruple rooms.
Rooms and suites are spacious, beautiful, furnished with style, all different, with chandeliers, tapestry rugs, dark wooden beams, gilt mirrors, columns, wood panelling, ornately carved ceilings and Venetian antiques.
Rooms and suites have free WiFi, air conditioning, flat-screen satellite TV, safety deposit box, minibar, en-suite marble bathroom with free toiletries and hairdryer, and other amenities.
Suites are larger and have balcony with views, wood-beamed ceilings or frescoes, spa bath, a soft bathrobe and slippers.

The hotel is set in the majestic, beautifully-restored 15th-century Giustinian Ravà Palace, on Venice’s main island, in the heart of the world-famous Cannaregio, one of the six “sestieri”, or historic districts, in which the city of Venice is divided.

What are the hotel’s connections to public transport?

From either, the main water-bus line takes you to the Cà d’Oro stop in few minutes (4 stops), or alternatively it’s easy to walk the 1 km (0.6 miles) to the hotel.
Piazza San Marco and the other landmarks are also reachable by a short walk or by the regular water-bus that stops in front of the hotel.
Hotel Pesaro Palace is just in front of the water taxi stand on the Grand Canal.
The location is brilliant, OK. What’s the hotel like inside?
The Pesaro Hotel is rich in antique furnishings, precious art and extremely fine decor.
The hotel has a delightful internal courtyard and a garden of 50 square metres with tables and chairs. The staff speak English and other languages, and the reception is open 24 hours a day. Free WiFi is available in the hotel’s public areas.
