is a 4-star hotel in a superb location, right at the foot of Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) and the Vasari Corridor, a 5-minute walk from the Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Vecchio and (in the opposite direction) Pitti Palace.

Hotel Pitti Palace al Ponte Vecchio is set in a historic building, in the Torre dei Rossi-Cerchi (Rossi-Cerchi Tower), built in the 1200s. At the base of the tower is an alcove housing an ancient marble basin for a fountain, above which stands a copy of Giambologna’s bronze statue of Bacchus, hence the name “Fontana del Bacchino” for the fountain.
The original of the statue, completed in 1560, is in the National Museum of Bargello in Florence. Similarly, the original of Michelangelo’s David, whose copy stands in Piazza della Signoria, can be seen at the Gallery of the Academy of Florence.
Giambologna’s sculpture depicts the Roman god of wine Bacchus pouring the content of a cup and looking at the poured liquid (although he would have preferred wine to water, no doubt), and rests on a cubical marble pedestal, adorned with a lion’s head from which comes the gush of water falling into the basin.
The Hotel Pitti Palace’s entrance is just next to the Bacchus Fountain. The hotel, as mentioned, is in the Rossi Tower, which with its 7 floors is one of Florence historic centre’s tallest buildings. In it it’s still possible to see the stone buttresses of the Old Bridge.
