Vasto and Its Area

Vasto Marina is a child-friendly, long and ample beach of fine sand. This area’s beaches have won the Blue Flag for their cleanliness, and are part of a nature reserve.

The Vasto region is home to many glorious, unspoilt beaches, the main of which is in Marina di Vasto, which is the hub of the Vasto summer tourism.

What’s the difference between Vasto Marina and Marina di Vasto? You may well ask. Practically none. Vasto Marina is the name given to the beach of the town of Marina di Vasto, an area of Vasto.

Vasto Marina has a fine and golden sandy beach, bordered by the mouth of the river Trigno to the south and the imposing statue of the Bather, called ‘Sirenetta’ (little mermaid) by the locals, This beach extends in the shape of a sickle, or scythe, to delimit the renowned Golden Gulf of Vasto.

With its equipped beaches, Vasto Marina is ideal both for families and for sports lovers, in fact there is no shortage of beach volleyball-soccer-tennis courts, not to mention all the pedalos, dinghies and canoes you can hire.

Among the other lidos of the district are the small beach of Punta Aderci, the beach of the Libertines and the Mottagrossa coast beaches with rocks and pebbles, all surrounded by a wild nature and rich wild broom that are reflected in the amazing waters with cobalt reflexes.

Vasto itself is a historic town dating back to at least the 3rd century BC. Once a pirate stronghold, it has a perfectly preserved historic centre, with several noteworthy churches, the 15th-century Caldoresco Castle, Roman baths and, in the cathedral square, the Palazzo d’Avalos, the palace of the ancient ruling family who turned Vasto into a garden city.
